OVERVIEW
This SOP establishes a daily flow system for grooming salons managing multiple pets through check-in, bathing, drying, grooming, finishing, checkout, daycare, boarding, walk-ins, and add-on services. It recognizes that a busy salon needs more than an appointment schedule; staff must know which pets should move first, which can safely wait, which require full drying or additional preparation, and who is responsible for each part of the workflow.
A clear appointment flow helps prevent pets from sitting too long, groomers waiting for unprepared dogs, bathers being unsure what to start next, rushed finishing work, missed pickup promises, mixed-up service types, walk-ins disrupting the schedule, and different departments working from different information.
The SOP provides guidelines for prioritizing pets based on check-in time, pickup time, coat type, bathing and drying needs, grooming difficulty, matting, behavior or safety concerns, senior or medical concerns, service type, and available staff and equipment. It also provides a Busy Day Flow Checklist and Training Sign-Off to support consistent implementation.

BUSINESS BENEFITS
A standardized appointment flow helps the salon coordinate pets, staff, equipment, and timing from the beginning of the day. It supports consistency by giving staff a shared method for deciding which dogs should start, wait, dry, move forward, or receive priority. The process also improves communication between reception, bathing, grooming, and checkout by requiring important details such as early pickup requests, matting concerns, behavior warnings, medical notes, price approvals, and add-on requests to be communicated before the pet moves forward. The flow system and daily checklist also help staff track timing, pickup needs, delays, and dogs requiring special attention.

IMPLEMENTATION NOTES
Use this SOP every day the salon has multiple pets moving through check-in, bathing, drying, grooming, finishing, checkout, daycare, boarding, walk-ins, or add-on services. Before the first dogs arrive, review the full schedule, identify the first rotation, mark early and late pickups, identify special coat, health, behavior, and preparation needs, and assign staff responsibilities. Use a visible flow system such as grooming software, a dry-erase board, kennel cards, grooming cards, a printed schedule, color coding, or department notes. Use the Busy Day Flow Checklist as a daily board review, manager checklist, or staff training sheet. Adjust the process to the shop's layout, staffing, kennel space, equipment, software, and service mix, and use the related SOPs for opening, check-in, bathing, drying, pre-groom assessment, final groom quality checks, and injury response where applicable.
