A busy appointment schedule or healthy-looking revenue number does not necessarily show the complete condition of a grooming business. Expenses, cancellations, payroll, equipment repairs, product costs, client retention, safety concerns, and scheduling issues can affect the business at the same time. The Owner Dashboard provides a simple way to review these areas consistently and identify what requires attention.

This SOP establishes a five-step weekly review process: gather the relevant numbers and records, compare results, identify the most important priority, assign an action with responsibility and a deadline, and confirm completion during the next review. It covers financial metrics such as revenue, average ticket, expenses, and cash flow, along with operational measures including capacity, rebooking, cancellations, productivity, reviews, safety incidents, inventory, and equipment.

The procedure can be used by solo mobile groomers, mobile fleets, single salons, multi-location companies, franchises, and grooming departments within other businesses. Results can be reviewed by individual location or unit and then compared with company totals while accounting for differences in staffing, hours, pricing, services, and other operating conditions.

  • How to conduct a consistent weekly business review
  • How to use the six main dashboard areas: money, appointments, clients, team, safety and quality, and supplies and equipment
  • How to calculate and review key financial and operational metrics
  • How to evaluate capacity, rebooking, cancellations, and appointment activity
  • How to review employee productivity with appropriate context
  • How to identify recurring client feedback and safety concerns
  • How to monitor inventory and equipment needs
  • How to compare results across weeks, months, years, locations, and mobile units appropriately
  • How to prioritize issues and assign responsibility and deadlines
  • How to follow up on weekly actions

A consistent weekly dashboard gives owners and managers a practical view of financial, operational, employee, client, safety, inventory, and equipment conditions. Reviewing these areas together can reveal issues that may not be visible from revenue or bank balances alone. Documenting a responsible person, deadline, and follow-up date creates accountability for identified concerns. Comparing locations and time periods can also help identify recurring patterns while recognizing differences between operating models. The procedure supports focused decision-making by encouraging owners to select the most important issue rather than creating an excessive number of weekly action items.

  • Solo Mobile Groomers
  • Mobile Grooming Fleet Owners
  • Single-Salon Owners
  • Multi-Location Grooming Business Owners
  • Franchise Owners
  • Grooming Department Managers
  • Business Owners Adding Grooming to Another Business
  • Managers Responsible for Weekly Business Reviews

Complete the weekly review on the same day each week whenever possible and allow approximately 30–60 minutes. Gather sales, appointment, payroll, expense, rebooking, cancellation, review, safety, inventory, and equipment information. Review each location or mobile unit separately before reviewing company totals, then compare results with appropriate goals and previous periods. Select the most important issue, assign a responsible person, establish a deadline, and set a follow-up date. Share information that affects employees, including safety, scheduling, training, client service, cleaning, equipment, inventory, and company procedures. Complete the Weekly Review Sign-Off to document the review.
