OVERVIEW
This SOP establishes a consistent approach for evaluating grooming quality before a pet leaves the salon. Quality is not limited to the finished haircut; it begins with consultation and notes and includes safe handling, bathing, coat preparation, professional technique, finishing details, honest communication, pet comfort, and the agreed service. The guide provides a common standard for identifying correctable issues while recognizing limitations caused by coat condition, behavior, health, or client instructions.
The final review covers the complete dog from multiple angles and includes the head, face, ears, body, feet, pads, nails, dewclaws, sanitary areas, rear, tail, and overall appearance. Movement is also reviewed because walking and shaking can reveal uneven lines, stray hairs, or an unfinished result.
The SOP also establishes a coaching approach for addressing quality concerns. Owners and managers are expected to recognize when work does not meet the shop's standard, while groomers are encouraged to self-inspect and receive specific, useful feedback. The goal is a safe, attractive, professional result that meets client expectations without exceeding the pet's safe tolerance.

BUSINESS BENEFITS
This SOP supports consistent quality by giving the salon a defined final review process before pets are released. It helps staff identify missed details, separate real pet limitations from preventable workmanship problems, document client communication and corrections, and maintain a shared understanding of the shop's quality standard. A consistent inspection sequence also supports efficiency by identifying correctable issues before the client arrives. Management review provides accountability for the quality representing the business, while private, specific coaching helps reinforce professional standards and continued skill development.

IMPLEMENTATION NOTES
Implement this SOP by reviewing client instructions and approved changes, checking bathing and coat preparation, and inspecting the complete dog before release. Staff should review the pet from every angle, observe movement when safe, and distinguish limitations from correctable missed work. Correct visible issues when safe and practical, including re-bathing or re-preparing the coat when appropriate. Students and new hires should have completed work reviewed by a senior groomer, manager, or designated trainer. Document relevant limitations, client communication, corrections, and reviewer approval as required, and use the Final Groom Release Checklist consistently.
