OVERVIEW
This SOP provides a standardized process for completing required paperwork, documentation, and onboarding tasks before a new employee begins working. It begins after a job offer is accepted and covers the steps needed to verify the hiring decision, document interviews, complete employment agreements, finish payroll and employment forms, and prepare the employee for the first scheduled shift.
The checklist also addresses first-day readiness, including schedules, workstations, equipment, software access, orientation, and trainer assignment. Before the employee starts, 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day reviews should also be scheduled, along with any additional training plan that is needed.
Using the same hiring process for every employee helps promote consistency, reduce mistakes, and ensure required documents are completed. The SOP emphasizes completing paperwork before the first day whenever possible, verifying signatures, documenting interview observations, and retaining hiring documentation in the employee's personnel file after onboarding is complete.

BUSINESS BENEFITS
A standardized new hire process helps create consistency in paperwork, documentation, communication, and onboarding. Completing employment documents before the first day reduces the need to chase missing information later and helps ensure employees understand their position, compensation, schedule, workplace expectations, policies, and safety procedures. Consistent use of the checklist also helps managers verify signatures, document hiring observations, prepare first-day requirements, and schedule training and performance reviews. Retaining completed hiring documentation in the employee's personnel file provides a clear record of what was communicated, acknowledged, and completed.
